The Race Numbers

    Nerve-wracking. Perfectly nerve-wracking. Peel. Place. Squeegee. I'm embarrassed by all the little bubbles underneath our race numbers but I take comfort -- when I remember to remind myself -- that the instructions say bubbles are normal.

       I kept hearing experienced racers recommend we place the numbers on the plane before we leave to Iowa City, the start city, that we will have plenty of work to do after we arrive. So I took a deep breath, opened the box, and began placing the numbers. And it's a good thing that I'm not so pig-headed as to have waited for later because it took a long time and a few attempts to install the numbers on the airplane.

      And they look straight!
